The United States Air Force, via an Army & Air Force Exchange Service contract with Boingo Wireless, is actively deploying complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity to Airmen residing in on-base dormitories. This initiative is currently operational across 28 initial locations—including the United States Air Force Academy and installations within the Air Education and Training Command (AETC)—with additional site deployments systematically underway to expand coverage.
In today’s connected world, reliable internet access is essential for how Airmen communicate with family and friends, pursue education and training opportunities, access digital services, and stay connected to daily life. Under the program, Airmen receive free high-speed Wi‑Fi designed to deliver speeds of 100 Mbps or greater with no equipment or installation required.
“Staying connected to family and friends makes a difference in Airmen’s daily lives and helps them stay mission ready,” said Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Angela Holden, the Exchange’s senior enlisted advisor. “This initiative is one more way the Exchange supports Quality-of-Life for Airmen while helping them feel more at home in their dorms.”
The service from Boingo provides a consistent user experience across participating installations, allowing Airmen to maintain connectivity as they relocate between bases. By removing financial barriers to internet access and simplifying deployment for installations, the program expands access to reliable connectivity while supporting Air Force quality of life and readiness initiatives.
“Reliable Wi-Fi is now essential for Airmen,” said Rebecca Gray, senior vice president and general manager, military at Boingo Wireless. “By making high-speed Wi‑Fi available at no cost in dormitories, Air Force leaders are enhancing quality of life, readiness and resilience of their Airmen, while leveraging Boingo’s proven infrastructure already in place to accelerate network deployments across installations, quickly and at scale.”
Boingo currently provides Wi-Fi connectivity to nearly 400,000 service member beds across more than 2,100 dormitories and barracks on over 100 U.S. Army, Air Force and Marine Corps installations worldwide. Boingo manages complex Wi-Fi, cellular Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), macro towers and fiber-to-the-home networks. Its fully managed wireless services include U.S.-based customer support, 24/7 network monitoring, NIST-aligned cybersecurity standards, ongoing maintenance and continuous technology upgrades.
