Age Safe® America Relaunches Its Aging in Place Home Safety Advisor™ Program to Help More People Keep Older Adults Safe at Home
PR Newswire
LOS GATOS, Calif., Oct. 13, 2026
With 64.6 million Americans now 65 or older, the modernized program gives people from many backgrounds the training, tools and business playbook to do in-home safety assessments.
LOS GATOS, Calif., Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Age Safe America today relaunched its Aging in Place Home Safety Advisor program, which gives people the training, tools and step-by-step playbook to build a business helping older adults live safely at home. Graduates earn the Aging in Place Home Safety Advisor certification. The program is built on the Senior Home Safety Specialist® (SHSS) certification, which the company has offered since 2015. The relaunch adds an upgraded online business course, the Advisor Field Kit of client-ready documents and a new Advisor Portal, and brings the training in line with how the field works today. It is open to people starting new work and to professionals who already serve older adults. Details are at agesafeamerica.com/become-an-advisor.

As of July 1, 2025, 64.6 million Americans were age 65 or older, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In AARP’s 2024 Home and Community Preferences Survey, 80 percent of adults 65 and older said they want to stay in their current home for as long as possible. In 2023, 41,400 adults 65 and older died from unintentional falls, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A 2023 Cochrane review found that for older adults at higher risk of falling, reducing hazards in the home lowers the rate of falls.
“I spent years helping people find their next career, and I have rarely seen a field with this much need and so few people doing the work,” said Dan Davenport, Chief Executive Officer of Age Safe America, who previously co-founded the outplacement company RiseSmart.
At the center of the relaunch is an online business course: 15 self-paced modules, four to five hours in total, that take an advisor from a first home assessment through pricing, marketing and a 90-day launch plan. Every new advisor package also includes the SHSS certification. Advisors receive the Advisor Field Kit of editable, client-ready documents and lifetime access to the Advisor Portal, which holds the training and resources in one place. Optional one-on-one coaching is available from co-founder Fritzi Gros-Daillon, author of Grace & Grit.
The SHSS certification includes the Age Safe app. Advisors use it to carry out a 240-point in-home assessment that produces the Age Safe Home Score™, a 0 to 100 measure of home safety, and a written report the family can act on.
No clinical background is required. Advisors include people changing careers, contractors and handymen, home care and home service professionals, real estate agents and younger people who want work with a purpose, along with nurses and occupational therapists who add home safety to their practice.
“Older adults want to stay in their homes, and their families want to know those homes are safe,” Davenport said. “In many communities there is no one trained to walk through the house and give the family a plan. We modernized this program so more people can do that work, with the training, the tools and a playbook to build a business around it.”
Anyone considering the work can start by checking their own county with the free Age Safe Market Score™ tool, which shows Census data on older homeowners and local housing. Program details are at agesafeamerica.com/become-an-advisor. Davenport is available for interviews.
